We do not want to withhold the following news in the field of environmental protection from you:

  • At the Global Energy Austria Award ceremony on May 23rd, 2017 at Linz, the project „Re-Use and Recycling of Battery Systems from E-Mobility“ got awarded with the Austrian Energy Globe Award in category “Earth”. Together with our research partners, Saubermacher, AVL, KTM and Smart Power, we got a lot of attention in media for our important research project. A picture of the award, you can find here.

  • Mister DI Dr.mont. Renato Sarc and his team of the ReWaste4.0 project at the Chair of Waste Processing Technology and Waste Management of the Montanuniversitaet Leoben won this year’s first place at the poster competition of the ÖWAV Waste Management Conference in Graz (May 2017). The 37 posters submitted by representatives of economy, authorities, and industry were evaluated by a total of 470 conference participants.
    The contribution of Dr. Sarc with the title “ReWaste4.0 – Recycling and Recovery of Waste 4.0” was chosen as the winning poster.
    The annual ÖWAV conference is one of the biggest Austrian gatherings for Waste- and Resource Management besides the biannual Recy & DepoTech, organized by the Chair of Waste Processing Technology and Waste Management, and offers a platform for exchange between stakeholders and local waste management.   • On April 26th and 27th, 2017 the rectorate of Montanuniversitaet Leoben and the chairs AVAW, VTIU and TPT welcomed the rector Mr. Prof. Totev and the vice rector Mr. Prof. Pavlov of University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski". A photo of this visit you find here.

  • On April 25th, 2017 the Elektroaltgeräte Koordinierungsstelle (EAK) awarded the "Elektro-Nick 2017". This award made of electronic waste was created by employees of the chair AVAW. More Information including a picture gallery you find here.

  • The Global Energy Award was granted on April 5th, 2017 in Graz. The project Re2Ba and the linked activities for developing a Re-Use- and Recycling-Concept for Lithium-Ion-Batteries, got awarded at the Styrian gala at “alte Universitaet” as a winner in category “Research”. Project partners, in addition to our Chair of Waste Processing Technology and Waste Management, are Saubermacher Dienstleistungs AG, AVL LIST GmbH and KTM Sportmotorcycling GmbH.
    As Styrian winner, we are representative in the Austrian national competition. Project leaders at Montanuniversitaet Leoben are Mag. Therese Schwarz and Dr. Astrid Arnberger (before AVAW, now Saubermacher Dienstleistungs AG). You can find a picture of the award ceremony here.

  • Recy & DepoTech 2016, the 13th waste management conference,  was held at Montanuniversitaet Leoben from November 8th-11th, 2016.  All relevant information you please find via the official website www.recydepotech.at.
    • The conference was visited by the camera crew of "kanal3.tv" for the first time. Here you please find their five minutes long GERMAN video report.
    • During the conference ISWA-scholarship-award ceremony took place too. The ISWA-award went to our former colleague Dr. Astrid Arnberger. The topic of her thesis is "Developing a holistic recycling concept for traction batteries based on lithium-ion batteries". Fotos of the award ceremony you please find here.

    • Additionally, three honorary prizes were awarded to persons who have actively supported the conference for many years. On opening day, prizes were personally handed out  to Mr. Ing. Alfred Krenn and Mr. Dr.-Ing. Marco Ritzkowski. As Mr. DI Walter Scharf was unfortunately unable to attend the conference, he was subsequently awarded. Fotos  of the award you please find here.

  • On October 29th, 2016 2016 the report "Was von uns übrig bleibt" was shown on the television channel "Das Erste". In this seven minutes long contribution Prof. Pomberger undertakes a very interesting timetravel. German television contribution you please find here.

  • On October 20th-21th, 2016 Prof. Pomberger held an opening speech at conference "Wirtschaftsstrategische Rohstoffe (r4)" in Hannover. The topic of the lecture was "Die dynamische Entwicklung der europäischen Abfallwirtschaft". The agenda of the conference you find here.   • On September 4th-5th, 2016 a chinese delegation has visited Montanuniversitaet Leoben. Here you find a short report of this visit.

  • On June 27th, 2016 an excursion to the incineration plant (MVA) Pfaffenau took place - as part of the class "Exkursion Infrastruktur- und Abfallwirtschaft". Here is a foto of the participants.

  • The "Energy Globe Award / Styria" in the category "worldwide" was awarded to the project "Landfill Mining Styria" of chair AVAW. Here you find the official website of the organizer.   • On March 13th, 2016 at "Ö1" a radio broadcast with the issue "Matrix – Computer & neue Medien" took place. The broadcast you find here (German language).

  • On March 7th, 2016 at "Byrischer Rundfunk" a TV broadcast with the issue "Gefahr im Untergrund" (red mud) was shown. The video you find here (German language).

  • On March 3rd, 2016 Prof. Pomberger was speaker at "Urban Future Global Conference" in Graz - Session "How innovative waste solutions help the environment and can save millions". Here you find a video of the lecture.

  • From March 1st to May 31th, 2016 the exhibition "Rohstoffe sind Zukunft" is placed in the art hall of Leoben. Our chair will be at the exhibition with some exhibition objects.   • On January 20th, 2016 the closing event of the project "ChromSan - Further investigations concerning in-situ remediation of contaminated sites" had taken place at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben. The presentations of this event you find here. The event language will be German.

  • On January 17th, 2016 at "ORF Österreich Bild" a TV broadcast with the issue "Die Kaderschmiede - 175 Jahre Montanuniversität Leoben" was shown. The video you find here (German language).

  • On January 3rd, 2016 Mr Univ.-Prof. Dr. Roland Girtler published a report of "Ledersprung" and "Alma Mater" of Montanuniversitaet Leoben at "Krone Zeitung". The report you find here (German language).

  • On December 4th, 2015, the 2. "Day of Teaching" was held at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben. At this event, the ÖH-Prize for excellent teaching was presented to Ms. DI Alexia Aldrian, scientific assistant at the Chair of Waste Processing Technology and Waste Management.   • On November 17th, 2015 the regional division Carbon Composites Austria, the Chair of Materials Science and Testing of Polymers as well as the Chair of Waste Processing Technology and Waste Management invites you to the workshop "Recycling - Mittel zum Zweck?!" at Montanuniversitaet Leoben.   • Our Chair of Waste Processing Technology and Waste Management has a vacant job as a fully employed university assistant. The job advertisement you can find here.

  • Following two highly successful EURELCO events in the European Parliament (100 attendees) and at OVAM, Mechelen (30 attendees), EURELCO is now ready to launch the animation film “Enjoy the landfill mining benefits with former MTV-star Ray Cokes”, which is intended for a non-specialised public. The film is now on-line here.

  • On October 28th, 2015 Prof. Pomberger met federal minister Rupprechter and Ms Freudenthaler (VÖEB) to talk about the topic "New waste management challenges concerning innovation and circular economy". A picture of this meeting you find here.

  • On October 20th, 2015 Prof. Pomberger attended the "Enhanced Landfill Mining" seminar at EU-parliament in Brussels. Here you find an approximately five minute video about the seminar.

  • At the information event „The Styrian Waste Management introduces itself“ on 15.10.2015, the visitors got an overview about the performance of our chair AVAW at our exhibition stand. Photos of our stand you can find here.
    The professional exchange with partners from the private and municipal waste disposal industry and many short lectures and interviews about current and future topics formed the framework of a successful event.

  • On Octorber 16th, 2015 our colleague Mr Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Renato Sarc received one of the four Hans-Roth-Umweltpreise (environmental award) for this dissertation "Herstellung, Qualität und Qualitätssicherung von Ersatzbrennstoffen zur Erreichung der 100%-igen thermischen Substitution in der Zementindustrie".   • The Montanuniversitaet Leoben celebrated ist 175th anniversary with numerous lectures and tours over the campus and the largest European Grand Miners' Parade. The Chair of Waste Proecessing Technology and Waste Management was also opening its doors during the openhouse days. Visitors were invited to learn more about the activities of the Chair and were guided through the Chair’s premises (laboratorys included) - here you can find some photos of the tours.   • On September 17th, 2015 the Elektro-Nick was awarded for the first time within the jubilee-symposium of EAK. This award was designed by employees of the Chair AVAW. Here you can find a short report (in German) of the event (incl. a photo).

  • On June 17th, 2015 an article about "Forscher 'impfen' verseuchten Boden" was printed in Kronen Zeitung. This article refers to the project ChromSan on our Chair AVAW. The online-article you can find here.

  • The municipality of Leoben offers a free position as "Leitung des Referates Umwelt und Tiefbau". Here you find the offiziell invitation to tender.

  • On April 26th, 2015 there was a television report on ARD (german television) about "Aluminiumproduktion und Reststoffproblematik". Please find the german report here.

  • On April 21st, 2015 our colleague Mr Dipl.-Ing. Dr.mont. Renato Sarc has his doctoral examination - passed with distinction. An important guest from Croatia was arrived for this examination. The german article to the doctoral examination you can find here.

  • At the Österreichischen Abfallwirtschaftstagung (ÖWAV) in Villach (April 15th-17th, 2015) poster contributions of the Chair AVAW were honored. An article (german) about this honor you can find here.

  • On Februar 2nd there was a television report on Croatian television. Starting at minute 22:10 there is an interview with Prof. Pomberger. Please find the german report here.

  • The Waste Management Officer of Montanuniversitaet Leoben (year 2015) is our colleague Mr. Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Josef Adam. The deputy is Ms. Dipl.-Ing. Tanja Wolfsberger.

  • On November 4th-7th, 2014 the 12th DepoTech-conference has taken place at Montanuniversitaet Leoben. The conference was a great success for us as organiser. As a little anecdote we want to indicate the following german video from Peter DeVille (Comedy). Please take a look -  it will be worth.

  • On June 27th, 2014 the curriculum for the sudies "Industrial Environmental Protection and Process Technology was published in Mitteilungsblatt No. 82.

  • On June 27th, 2014 the rector's ordinance of changing the title of the bachelor and master's study program "Environmental Protection, Disposal Engineering and Recycling" was published in Mitteilungsblatt No. 81.

  • Bauverlag BV GmbH is offering an excursion to HeidelbergCement in Burglengenfeld (Germany) for approx. 50 students in the time from 21st to 23th of October 2014. Information, an report of the last excursion and the contact details you can find here.

  • The Chair of Waste Treatment Technology and Waste Management (AVAW) is working togehter with the Chair of Mineral Processing, as well as the Chair of Process Technology and Industrial Environmental Protection on the four-year research project "Plastic Reborn" with the objective to develop a wet-mechanical treatment method for previously non-recyclable plastic rich waste streams. These fractions should go into chemical recycling in the future. The industrial partner in the project with a volume of slightly more than one million Euros is OMV.

  • The Chair of Waste Processing Technology and Waste Management (AVAW) is involved in the RSA project "Carbo Resources", in which Montanuniversitaet under the auspices of the Chair of Process Technology and Industrial Environmental Protection investigates the carbonation of mineral raw materials for the production of valuable fractions. This four-year project with a volume of more than 900,000 Euros strengthens the expertise of the department in terms of mineral waste recycling and the cooperation within the Montanuniversitaet with regard to innovative recycling.

  • On April 10th 2014 the radio station Ö1 broadcast a contribution "Dimensions" from our employee Ms Dipl.-Ing. Tanja Wolfsberger.

  • From March 31st to April 30th 2014 the exhibition "Resources are Our Future" took place in the Art Hall of Leoben. About 4.400 visitors found their way to the Art Hall and were surprised with respect to the various fields of research of the Montanuniversitaet Leoben.   • On March 19th, 2014, 3 awardees of the Hans Roth Environmental Prize received their honours by the Federal Minister Dipl.-Ing. Andrä Rupprechter under attendence of the benefactor and founder of the Saubermacher company, Hans Roth. Among the awardees there was Ms Melanie Rogetzer, student at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben.

  • The Montanuniversitaet Leoben is charter member of the European Landfill Mining network EURELCO which was founded on March 11th 2014 in Mechelen, Belgium (group photo). At the moment, 28 member organizations belong to the EURELCO network, among which there are universities, companies, public institutions and non-governmental organizations from 13 countries. EURELCO shall connect present research activities in this field, e.g. the LAMIS project of the Montanuniversitaet, and develop European projects in this innovative research field.

  • On February 11th, 2014, the Montanuniversitaet Leoben announced in its Mitteilungsblatt No. 34 the installation of a curriculum commission for the proposed master course “Recyclingtechnik”. The course will be offered for the first time in winter semester 2014/2015.

  • On February 11th, 2014, the Montanuniversitaet Leoben announced in its Mitteilungsblatt No. 33 the change of the name of the study field “Industrial Environmental Protection, Waste Technology and Recyling” into “Industrial Environmental and Process Engineering".
